Just thought i’d throw this brand new trailer up for Disney’s new “Moana” cartoon movie. I promise I have never seen it before writing my post yesterday. I just so happened to mention yesterday that my favorite god of the ancient Hawaiian pantheon was Maui. Oddly enough, the latest creation from Disney is a tale about the same exact demigod Maui, played by Dwayne, “The Rock” Johnson! Weird enough, but then at precisely 33 seconds into the Trailer Dwayne/Maui flips upside down and seems to yell out in his chant “Io”.
If you missed my article yesterday “Io” is the same entity referred to by Matt Higa and Daniel Kikawa in the linked foursquare convention 2016 video and the problematic and controversial book by Daniel Kikawa “Perpetuated in Righteousness”.
Well at least Matt Higa now has another reference besides “Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade”. Maybe Matt Higa and Daniel Kikawa can take out the whole church for movie night?
I think we’re going to get a YouTube channel going when I return to Hawaii next week. We will be looking for content (not really a problem at the moment) and guests to interview. If anyone wants to help me, debate me, agree or disagree with me, change the subject, whatever, sound off here first and leave me a message.
Higa and Kikawa can carry on and continue quoting Spielberg and now Disney, I will end today’s post with a few verses from Timothy.
As I besought thee to abide still at Ephesus, when I went into Macedonia, that thou mightest charge some that they teach no other doctrine, Neither give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which minister questions, rather than godly edifying which is in faith: so do.
For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;
Maui is a mythological figure to everyone in the south pacific just like hercules is. He has a rich story that intertwines with the creation myth and the genesis of New Zealand. Ask any 5 year old in new zealand, or the pacific islands and they tell you he fished up new zealand, tamed the sun, bought fire to the world, and has a magical jawbone š
Thanks for visiting Romola. In Hawaii we have a song called “Maui, da Hawaiian Superman” or something like that. Yes, Maui is similar to all the famous demigods of old like Perseus or Hercules and also the new gods (small g) like Superman of Marvel and DC comics as well. The mighty myths of old are making quite a comeback in popularity!
